Every musician needs two things in their pocket: a metronome and a tuner. The problem? Most apps do one badly, or both poorly. Rythmic combines them into a single, beautifully crafted experience with one obsession: precision without distraction.
The Challenge
Existing music tools fell into two camps. Professional apps buried essential controls under layers of features no one asked for. Simple apps lacked the timing accuracy serious musicians demand — even a few milliseconds of drift is audible. We needed to:
- Deliver sub-millisecond timing accuracy that professionals can trust
- Create an interface so clean it disappears during practice
- Handle real-world acoustic environments without choking on ambient noise

Lessons Learned
- Latency is the feature: in audio apps, imperceptible timing isn't "good enough" — it's the entire product
- Simplicity is a craft: removing features takes more discipline than adding them
- Design for the context: musicians practice in the dark — that insight shaped every pixel
